Jay McMann
Jay is the founder and co-owner of Island Energy and has 40 years of experience in the heating oil industry. He started his first company in Boston, MA in 1976 with one truck and successfully grew it by focusing on outstanding service, reliability and fair prices. In 1988, he acquired Bermingham Oil, Inc. and the combined company, McMann-Bermingham Oil, developed into a prominent heating oil distributor in the Boston market, delivering millions of gallons annually. Jay sold this business to Global Partners LP, one of the largest petroleum product distributors in North America, in 1993.
Jay moved to Martha’s Vineyard in 1999 and started a heating and air conditioning company. Over time, he realized the Island market needed a heating oil company similar to the one he owned in Boston, a business committed to reliability, customer satisfaction and the local community. As a result, he started Island Fuel in 2008, initially focusing on heating oil delivery to residential and commercial customers. Since then, Jay has expanded the capabilities of the company to create the Island’s only full service oil company. The company was renamed Island Energy in 2014 to better reflect its comprehensive service offering.
Jay has held an unrestricted oil burner license since 1976 as well as other mechanical licenses. He has been a member of the Tisbury Fire Department and a First Responder on the Tisbury Emergency Rescue Squad for over 15 years. He has three children and currently lives in Vineyard Haven with his wife, Carmen, and their son, Alan. His other children, Heidi and Shawn, live in the Boston area.
Joshua Faye
Josh joined Island Energy as a senior Service Technician in January 2015. He has over 20 years of experience providing customers on the Island with high quality plumbing and heating service. Josh holds oil burner and plumbing licenses and is also a master mason. He received a degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America. He lives in Falmouth, MA with his wife Erin and their daughter Helen. His hobbies include skiing, hunting and fishing.
Brian McBride
Brian has been a co-owner of Island Energy since June 2011, when he formed a partnership with Jay McMann. From 1987 until mid-2013, he worked at several leading financial institutions in London and New York, specializing in leveraged finance. His current responsibilities at Island Energy include fuel purchasing, hedging and marketing. Brian lives in West Tisbury with his wife, Elizabeth. His hobbies include biking and running.
Wendy Tillman
Wendy returned to Island Energy in June 2016 after two years of graduate study. Following a twenty year career in banking on the island she worked at Island Energy during the winter of 2014. Her duties include managing the office and handling the financial needs of the company. Wendy lives in Vineyard Haven with her husband, Mike, and their son, Ben. Her hobbies include scrapbooking and yoga.
